Course fees and funding
The Learning and Skills Service is funded via the North East Combined Authority and Department for Education.
Eligible learners will be fully funded and have nothing to pay towards the cost of the course.
All courses are for adults 19 or over
Anyone aged 19 or over can access our Adult Skills Funding English, maths and digital skills courses up to and including level 2 for free.
19 to 23-year-olds
If you are aged 19-23 you can access a free course if you are:
- studying a qualification up to and including level 1 to help you move up to level 2
- studying for your first full level 2 qualification
- studying for level 2 but have already achieved a level 2 or higher and are currently unemployed
- studying for your first full level 3 qualification
24+ and unemployed
If you are unemployed and over the age of 24 you can access a free course if you are:
- studying a qualification up to and including level 1 to help you progress to level 2
- studying for your first full level 2 qualification
- studying for level 2 but have already achieved a level 2 or higher and are currently unemployed
Your course may be fully funded if you are employed, in receipt of certain benefits or earn less than £25,000 gross annual salary.
The majority of our Tailored Learning courses are free of charge however learners who do meet the eligibility criteria have the option to pay a course fee
