Council teams on standby ready for Storm Eunice

Council teams remain on standby ready to support communities during Storm Eunice..

Storm Dudley - collapsed wall in Hendon

Following Storm Dudley's departure from the city leaving relatively limited storm damage, Storm Eunice is expected to bring more strong winds throughout the day today.

A yellow weather warning of wind is in place until 18.00  This could result in damage to homes and buildings and fallen trees. There is also the chance of power cuts and disruption to public transport and mobile phone coverage as well as the potential for sleet and snow, although the brunt of the storm now expected to impact on the southwest of the country.

Council teams were called out to deal with five reports of storm damage on Wednesday and overnight into Thursday, four relating to fallen trees and a fifth to a collapsed wall in Hendon. There is also a lane closure on the north side of the A183 Chester Road at the end of Croft Avenue due to a dangerous gable end. Temporary signals are in operation resulting in shuttle working for traffic in each direction. Bus stops near the scene have been suspended in both directions and temporary pedestrian signals are in operation with the northern footway closed.

Council Leader, Cllr Graeme Miller said: "Thankfully the impact Storm Dudley has had on our city has been nothing like what we experienced during Storm Arwen in November. We are continuing to monitor the weather and have teams on standby ready to support our communities should the need arise. I would urge everyone to take extra care and stay safe, especially if they need to be out and about."
