Let's Talk - Culture House

Residents can give their views on plans for a flagship library at the heart of Riverside Sunderland.

Let's Talk - Culture House

Much more than a state-of-the-art library and community hub, the £27m Culture House is about providing a vibrant, dynamic and engaging space for residents and visitors.

The landmark building, which will be built on the edge of Keel Square, will recognise the city's rich history and heritage.

Culture House is about inspiring a passion for learning and knowledge, making and creativity

It will stimulate a love of reading for all ages and offer opportunities such as trying new technologies, meeting authors and artists, and finding out more about what's on in Sunderland.

A Culture House Hub is at the Bridges Shopping Centre (opposite Waterstones) from Tuesday 25 May through to Friday 28 May where people can meet members of the project team.

This will be open from 10am-4pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 10am-1pm on Friday. Everyone is welcome.

More Let's Talk Culture House drop-in sessions for news and views are taking place across the city in Silksworth, Houghton and Washington.

Councillor Linda Williams, the City Council's Cabinet Member for Vibrant City, said: "We're incredibly excited about Culture House - it will be so much more than a library as we know it.

"We want it to be somewhere where everyone will feel at home. While you'll find all the things you would expect to find in a traditional library, it will also be a changing creative space with a warm welcome, great coffee and inspiring spaces both inside and outside for relaxing, meeting and getting involved in a whole range of events and activities.

"That could be everything from meeting up with friends, learning new crafts and finding out interesting facts about the city to looking back in time through virtual reality, searching your family tree and fun children's activities.

"But we really want to hear what everyone in Sunderland thinks as the plans begin to take shape, which is why we're setting up Culture House Hubs in the Bridges and across the city.

"This is a chance to be involved in shaping this flagship development and we really hope you will come along and give us their thoughts and ideas."
