Looking for something to keep the kids entertained during the Easter holidays?

The SARA Project in Southwick has joined forces with the Salvation Army to line up two egg-citing Easter Fun Days at Southwick Community Primary School between 11am and 2pm Thursday 14 April and the following Thursday 21 April.

Fun activities lined up for the day include face painting, an assault course and a children's entertainer and police and fire vehicles. On Thursday 21 April, children will be able to meet farm animals such as sheep, goats, rabbits and guinea pigs and enjoy a climbing wall.

Everyone who goes along will also get the chance to find out more about the SARA project, (Southwick Altogether Raising Aspirations) meet the team and find out how they can get involved.

The SARA Project is based at Austin House on Shakespeare Street, Southwick. It brings together several agencies including Sunderland City Council, Northumbria Police, Northumbria Violence Reduction Unit, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, Adult and Children's services as well as housing, education, and health representatives working with local voluntary and community organisations to rejuvenate Southwick and support the area's residents.

The project was set up in 2020 after discussions and engagement with the community about how best to breathe fresh life into the area, and works to tackle a range of issues including crime and disorder, mental health, and unemployment.

Vicki Neal, Community Engagement Worker for the SARA project, said: "We're really looking forward to seeing local people at the Family Fun Days. As well as free fun activities for families, it's also a chance to find out how to can get involved in local projects."
