The Wheels Are in Motion to Bring National Cycling to Sunderland
Sunderland City Council confirms that the city will again play host to elite level cycling in 2021.
Subject to the COVID regulations at the time, the weekend of 20 and 21 November will see elite cyclists take over Herrington Country Park when the HSBC UK Cyclo-Cross National Trophy Series takes place.
Wondering what Cyclo-Cross is? Cyclo-Cross is short, sharp, off-road races with skinny tyres, mud, hurdles, obstacles and intense action. Races take place in age group categories across the weekend, culminating in Elite level races in both male and female categories.
Cllr Linda Williams, Portfolio Holder for Vibrant City said: "After such a disappointing year last year with events cancelled and postponed, we are thrilled to be able to announce something of this standard coming to Sunderland.
"Being able to share and show off our vibrant city to others from across the UK is something we're much looking forward to."
With the annual Active Sunderland BIG Bike Rides 10th anniversary also this year, Sunderland's love affair with cycling is only going to grow.
