Highway bid scheme

Sunderland City Council has submitted a bid to the Department for Transport in response to an invitation from the government to seek further funding to tackle more pinch points on local roads.

Sunderland's bid is for transport infrastructure improvements which will deliver journey time savings and reduce traffic congestion and delays at the junction of the A183 Chester Road with Springwell Road.

The A183 Chester Road has strategic importance for Sunderland and links the City Centre with the A19, connecting residential areas with locations identified for economic growth such the Sunderland Low Carbon Zone and Advanced Manufacturing Park adjacent Nissan.
