Single Person Discount
If you live on your own or if all other people who live with you are under 18 or not counted for council tax, you will get a 25% discount off your bill.

After you have applied you must continue to pay the amount shown on your council tax bill until you hear from us.
Preventing Fraud
Your council tax details will be used in data matching exercises and may be provided to bodies responsible for auditing and administering public funds for the purpose of preventing and detecting fraud.
If your Council Tax bill tells you that we have awarded a discount or exemption, you must tell us straight away about any change to your circumstances which may affect your discount or exemption.
If the council or, bodies working on behalf of the council have written to you about a discount or exemption, you must respond to the letter straight away.
Sunderland City Council has an obligation to review all Council Tax discounts and exemptions every year. If you do not tell us about changes to your Council Tax bill we may withdraw your discount or exemption, you may have to pay a penalty of £70. If you continue to fail to provide the information requested or you knowingly supply incorrect information, you may have to pay further penalties of £280.
